Learn More About SeaLionCC
I’m Janelle Wilson, and I created Sea Lion Creative Community as a space for adults to reconnect with their creative side, reflect on their emotions, and form meaningful connections. Whether exploring art for the first time or returning to an old passion, this is where you can come as you are—curious, creative, and open to new possibilities. In-person classes are offered in the Treasure Valley, Idaho, and virtual options are available for those outside the area.
My Journey to Sea Lion Creative Community
Art has always been a part of my life. Growing up with a mother who is a visual artist and educator, I was surrounded by creativity from an early age. Dance was my first love, joy, expression, and connection to the world. But when an injury shifted my path, I felt utterly lost and depressed. I was forced to build a solid mental health toolbox and find new ways to express myself and support the arts. From writing poetry and spoken word performances to coordinating public art events to launching the Boise chapter of Thrill the World, I re-established my connection to the art scene and my creative spirit.
The next step on my path appeared when I discovered the Arts & Healing Initiative, which integrates the power of creativity with mental health. That moment solidified my mission: to create a welcoming, inclusive space where people could not only make art but also explore their emotions, connect with others, and grow. This passion, along with my education in Communications and certification in Social Emotional Arts, led to the birth of Sea Lion Creative Community. I also work at a National non-profit organization as an Administrator and Event Coordinator. Working with mental health professionals, social workers, and educators using arts modalities gives me access to top-tier experts in the field and continuing education content that I can modify for use in my classes.
My goal is to provide you with a space to be yourself, play, explore your emotions, and connect with others who value the same. Joining a Sea Lion Creative Community class isn’t just about making art—it’s about giving yourself permission to pause, reflect, and recharge. Many students have told me how these classes have provided much-needed breaks from the stresses of daily life, allowing them to reconnect with their creativity and feel more centered.
When you join us, you’re not just signing up for an art class—you’re becoming part of a community that supports your creative journey, honors your emotional growth, and values your unique perspective. I can’t wait to see what you create.
